THE PLAYER'S GUIDE

How to play

Football Champion follows one footballer rather than putting you in charge of an entire club. You choose who that player is, play the fixtures in their career, and decide how they respond when opportunities and setbacks arrive.

Guide updated 22 September 2026 · Game version 1.2.0

Your first week

Start a new career by choosing a men's or women's competition, your player's name, nationality, age and dominant foot. Then select one of ten positions and one of the three playstyles for that position. A playstyle changes your starting strengths; it does not lock your future development.

Pick a fictional starting club and difficulty. The career hub then shows your next fixture and the decisions waiting for you. You can explore the squad, league and development screens before your first match. The game explains its main controls in a short first-week tour.

The weekly loop

A career moves through weeks, with fixtures and off-pitch moments sharing the calendar. Read a story choice when one appears, prepare your player, play a due match, then advance to see how the world responds. Some choices affect condition or relationships immediately; others matter when selection, a promise or an offer is evaluated later.

Development gives you ways to work on your player between fixtures. Training is a tradeoff: harder work can improve skills but adds fatigue. Check fitness and the next match before committing to a heavy session. You can choose a quieter week when recovery matters more than a small short-term gain.

Matchday choices

Each fixture is an animated 11-versus-11 match in which you control the decisive actions of your footballer. A moment may offer a shot, a pass or another response. The displayed chance is an estimate, not a promise: the player's attributes, fitness, tactics and match situation all help determine the result.

For example, shooting from a difficult angle may give your player the direct chance to score, while finding a teammate may create a stronger team opportunity. You decide what fits the situation. After the match, the report records your contribution and the result, which feeds into the wider career.

After the whistle

Performance affects more than a single match rating. The club's view of your player can change, and conversations or promises can come back in later weeks. Look at the messages and newsroom to follow reactions, then check the squad and fixtures to understand where your player stands.

As the career grows, contracts, transfers, national-team opportunities, money and relationships add new decisions. You can stay and earn a larger role, or pursue a move when the terms and timing make sense. The game does not require a single winning path; the point is to make a career that feels like yours.
